Dr.
McKinley is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing
in Adult Reconstructive Surgery of the Hip and Knee
including Total Joint Replacement and High Tibial Osteotomy.
High
Tibial Osteotomy corrects alignment of the knee, relieving
pressure from the arthritic portion of the joint, and
transferring it to an area of more normal cartilage.
This frequently leads to pain relief and subsequently,
improved function. This surgery is an alternative to
knee replacement surgery in a younger patient whom would
have a higher chance of implant failure during their
lifetime.
Dr.
McKinley is a fellow member of the American Academy
of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the California Medical Association.
Dr.
McKinley obtained his Medical Degree at Temple University
and completed his Orthopaedic Residency Training at Stanford
University. Dr. McKinley then went on to complete a
Fellowship in Total Hip Reconstructive Surgery with
the father of modern hip replacement, Sir John Charnley
in Wrightington, England. Sir John Charnley invented
the low friction hip replacement in the early 1960's
and created the Center for Hip Surgery at Wrightington,
England. Surgeons from all over the world made their
way to Wrightington to learn his techniques. He was
a master surgeon, innovator and bio-engineer.
After
spending time in England with John Charnley, Dr. McKinley
returned to the United States and set up in private
practice at Berkeley Orthopaedics.
Dr.
McKinley has been performing total hip and knee replacements
for over 20 years. He is equally adept in performing
revision surgery of the hip and knee. His series of
primary and revision joint replacement procedures is
among the largest in Northern California.
